JIMMY
Another unexpected pleasure.
Challenging. Temperamental. Unpredictable. Funny how words used to describe the Pinot Noir grape are often applied to Pit Bulls as well. But we at Lagniappe have discovered that patience and nurturing can bring out the best in both.
Take the handsome guy you see to the left - James “Jimmy” Cagney - for instance. He and over 200 other dogs were confiscated in Ohio in the summer of 2010 during a cruelty investigation led by the U.S Humane Society. The Ohio 200, as the dogs became known, made national news and yet many of them could not find homes.
Animal Farm Foundation* scooped Jimmy off of death row—literally—in September 2010 and gave him the love and attention he so desperately deserved. Later, his amazing foster mom, Kelly DelSignore, took Jimmy in and helped shape him into the gentleman he is today.
Jimmy joined the Lagniappe Wines team in June 2011 and he has proven to be a true lagniappe—an unexpectedly delightful treat! Patient and kind, with a fabulous sense of humor, Jimmy greets the FedEx and UPS guys bringing the wine deliveries with a big smile (especially if they bring snacks). He has even bonded nicely with the Siamese cellar cats, Lucy and Linus.
When he’s off the clock, he loves long walks, chasing squirrels and twirling around in the dog park with his mates. Now if we could only get him to answer phones…
*All profits from the sales of Lagniappe Wines go to benefit animal charities such as the Animal Farm Foundation in Dutchess County, NY. Their mission is to secure equal treatment and opportunity for “pit bull” dogs. They are determined to show the world—one wonderful dog at a time—that Pit Bulls are individuals and very often don’t deserve the reputation they’ve got.
